HEALTH

My grandmother (80-year-old) has admitted into the Penang General Hospital due to her lungs problem caused by smoke, she can’t breathe by her own but she needs oxygen supply into her nose. I was there for the whole day, just to look after her, feed her with water and milk, and my auntie and cousin will come to take over the SHIFT at night. I wrote this, is to tell ALL OF YOU about what I have met there. About 12pm, an old couple has came to the bed beside my grandma, the wife (50+-year-old) was having lungs problem also, that was what I thought, because the whole floor is taking patients with lung problems. After awhile, her husband went back and I went to take my brunch, when I came back, she was standing in front of my grandma’s bed, I was curious, she saw me and said ‘HELLO’, and she asked: ‘ how many times of CHEMO had yr grandma gone through? ‘. I explained to her, my grandma wasn’t cancer patient but only having difficulties in breathing. She said ‘OH’ and she started to tell me her case – She is from IPOH and she got LUNGS CANCER just few months ago, she came to Penang because the equipments in Ipoh hospitals were not that complete compared to the hospitals in Penang. From here, I knew she is DAMN worrying about her first chemo, that’s why she asked that question to me because seriously, my grandma looked tired. She goes on – She said everything happens in this world will have the cause, the CAUSE & EFFECT in Buddhism, she was not a smoker, no one in her family is a smoker, she said she doesn’t understand why this happened to her, but now what she can do is accept it and fight with the cancer, she repeated ‘I don’t know why’ for many times. SADNESS in her eyes. I cant help anything but tell her that she will be ok, it’s good that we discovered it in the early stage. She said thank you and get back to sleep. I walked to the window and looked down on the road full of food stalls and people, I started to put my attention on those smokers, they are so HEALTHY now! I wonder how that auntie would think when she saw smokers with no health problems, YET. I know there might be other reasons why she got lungs cancer, but I just felt DAMN unfair and sorry for her. To those young smokers, please, stop it, I beg you! Don’t say that it’s difficult to stop! If you say this, then why you can’t tell yourself that it’s difficult to start smoking?! Please..

I wish that auntie can get well very soon!
